Lions work to protect vision

Mason Lamb, above, is shown being screened at Bayfield Early Education Program (BEEP) by Lion Ken Gaherty. Other schools that hosted the screenings were Southern Ute Indian Montessori Academy, Southern Ute Head Start and Early Head Start.

The Bayfield Lions Club completed its Fall KidSight Vision Screening in Bayfield and Ignacio. More than 200 preschool students were screened this year.

The screenings pick up vision problems which can be corrected early in a child's life. Local results are forwarded to Colorado. KidSight in Denver. Doctors examine the print outs and results are sent to the schools.

The Bayfield Lions Club will have access to the screener again after the first of the year. Schools with students 7 years old and younger who wish to have a screening can contact Ken or Sue Ann Gaherty at 884-2054.
