Little Devil fire contained near Chimney Rock

The Devil Mountain fire was visible from Chimney Rock last week and is expected to be fully controlled by the end of this week.

The Little Devil fire is fully contained and should by fully controlled by Aug. 30, according to the U.S. Forest Service.

Firefighters and equipment were being demobilized and reassigned to fires this weekend. The helicopter will remain near the Little Devil Fire to be utilized as needed. There are still some hot spots in the interior of the Little Devil Fire, but they pose no threat of spread outside containment lines. No buildings were threatened by the fire.

Forest Service Road 626, Devil Mountain Road has been reopened for public travel but Forest Service Road 627, that accesses the Devil Creek State Wildlife Area, will remain closed.

Smoke still may be visible from Highway 160 and Highway 151, the forest service said.

The fire was 48 acres in size and was started by a lightning strike on Aug. 18.
