This is a time for celebration and recognition. Two years and four months after the creation of the employer recognition program, La Plata County Thrive! Living Wage Coalition has welcomed its 100th Living Wage Employer.
These 100 employers in La Plata County have committed the monitory resources necessary to pay their employees a “living wage,” not just a “minimum wage.” There is a $3.49 per hour difference for low wage workers: the county’s living wage is $12.79 per hour compared to the state minimum wage of $9.30.
A few of these 100 employers are working toward paying living wages by developing a plan to do so with the help of the Small Business Development Center. These employers are raising the bar in traditionally low-wage sectors.
These employers recognize the value of this investment not only for their businesses but for our community. They should be congratulated and supported by all who read this.
