FLC Board of Trustees to meet for retreat

The Board of Trustees for Fort Lewis College will meet for a planning retreat from 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Friday at Haskell House, 5 Kennebec Court.

No action or public comment will be taken.

Sand Creek Massacre lecture upcoming

The Center for Southwest Studies at Fort Lewis College will continue its “Year in the Life of the West” summer lecture series with a presentation on the Sand Creek Massacre by center director Shelby Tisdale.

“An American Tragedy: The Sand Creek Massacre of 1864” will run from 1:30-2:30 p.m. Aug. 10 in the CSWS Lyceum Room 120, 1000 Rim Drive.

Tisdale will describe this tragic event, what led up to it and what occurred afterwards. She will also discuss the creation of the Sand Creek Massacre National Historic Site and the repatriation of two Cheyenne or Arapaho individuals from the Smithsonian Institution’s National Museum of Natural History.

Mill levy meeting to be held on Monday

There will be an informational meeting for those seeking involvement in the 3A mill levy education tax campaign at 5:30 p.m. Monday at the Powerhouse Science Center, 1333 Camino del Rio.

All residents interested in funding public education in Durango through the 3A mill levy are encouraged to attend.

Senior center to host technology classes

The Durango/La Plata Senior Center will hold two computer technology classes from 9 a.m.-noon on Tuesday and Thursday, Aug. 11, at 2424 Main Ave. The schedule and topics are:

Aug. 9 - Working with Digital Photos: This course will cover the basics of working with digital images. Learn how to download images taken with digital devices, manage and organize photos and perform basic photo editing and manipulation.Aug. 11 - Getting the Most from Your iPad: This class will review basic operations, apps, keyboarding, settings, internet, photos, troubleshooting of common problems and more. A knowledge of basic operations is required. Attendees should bring their own devices and must know their Apple IDs and passwords. Devices must be iPad & iPhone specific (no other smartphones or tablets allowed).The cost of each workshop is $15. Register and pay with Greta at the Senior Center or by calling 382-6428.
