‘The Connection’ to screen at library

A free screening premiere of the documentary “The Connection” will take place from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at Durango Public Library, 1900 East Third Ave.

The documentary explores the mind-body approach to health care. After being diagnosed with an autoimmune disease, journalist and filmmaker Shannon Harvey traveled the world in search of the missing link in health care. She interviewed leading scientists and met people with stories of recovery from severe back pain, heart disease, infertility, cancer and multiple sclerosis.

Animas City Cemetery tour offered Saturday

The Animas Museum will offer a tour of the Animas City Cemetery at 10:30 a.m. Saturday.

Actors in period costume will tell stories of the residents of Durango’s oldest cemetery. Participants should meet at 10 a.m. at the museum, 3065 West Second Ave. to carpool. People also may meet at the 2600 block of North College Drive where a costumed guide will escort the group to the cemetery. The tour is free. Donations will benefit the Animas Museum.

Zia holds benefit for education group

Zia Taqueria will host a benefit for the Be Frank Foundation on Sunday at both north and south locations, 3101 Main Ave. and 400 South Camino del Rio.

A percent of the restaurant’s sales will go to benefit this nonprofit organization devoted to the development of outdoor education and arts education in the Four Corners.

Teens to learn ways to combat stress

A “Teen Stressbuster Retreat” will take place from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the Boys and Girls Club of La Plata County, 2750 Main Ave.

High school teens are wanted for countywide youth leadership training to build stress resilience. From academic stress to loss of a parent or close friend, health challenges to bullying, teens face stress daily. Interested high school youths will be trained in a variety of coping skills that help decrease stress. The workshop will include frequent play breaks to de-stress trainees.

Weather safety training available

Free Storm Spotter and weather safety training will be provided by the National Weather Service at 6 p.m. April 29 in the Animas Room of the Durango-La Plata County Fairgrounds, 2500 Main Ave.

Training will include the two-hour Basic Storm Spotter Class. Optional advanced training will follow the basic training. There is no registration or RSVP.

Rotary Club examines social-media plan

Fort Lewis College students Paul Myers and Grace Landry, marketing and business majors at FLC, have been attending Daybreak Rotary meetings the last few weeks and are currently shaping a plan for integrating social media into the club’s outreach.

All Rotary members are asked to bring their smartphones for instruction in uses that will benefit their understanding of social-media opportunities. The meeting will begin at 7 a.m. Wednesday at the Durango Community Recreation Center, 2700 Main Ave.

AARP chapter reviews bills in Denver

AARP Chapter No. 1243 of Durango will meet at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Durango/La Plata Senior Center, 2424 Main Ave.

Sheila Casey, director of the senior center, will update members on current senior issues before the Legislature. All seniors are invited. To eat at the senior center, call and make reservations before 9:30 a.m. at 382-6445.
