All donations made to the Durango Food Bank at www.centurylink.com/fooddrive will be matched dollar for dollar through June 17.
The food bank needs to raise money for a building with more space in order to effectively fight La Plata County’s current food insecurity problem.
According to the Durango Food Bank, almost 14 percent of La Plata County residents miss at least one meal every day.
There will be a “poker run” to benefit local Blue Star and Gold Star Mothers at 9 a.m. Saturday.
The run will begin at the Elks Lodge at 901 East Second Ave., stop at The Hideaway at Vallecito and The Patio in Ignacio, and finish back at the Elks Lodge with poker. There will also be a 50/50 raffle after the finish, and the Blue Star and Gold Star Mothers will serve food.
Proceeds will support mothers who have had a son or daughter serve in the military (Blue Star) and mothers who have lost a child while on active military duty (Gold Star).
