Durango AARP to meet Tuesday

Durango AARP Chapter No. 1243 will meet at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Durango/La Plata Senior Center, 2424 Main Ave. Sheila Casey, director of the Durango/La Plata Senior Center, will give an update on what is new and changes with senior services. Members and seniors in the community are invited. If you wish to have lunch at the center, call 382-6445 by 9:30 a.m. for reservations.

Carnival Monday at Ignacio High

Ignacio School District’s High Expectation Committee’s fifth annual Carnival will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at the high school.

Activities will include a cupcake walk, ring toss, bouncy house, fish pond, bean bag toss, snowcones, putting green, knowledge bowl, darts and more. Food and drink will be available for purchase.

All proceeds will go toward the Veteran’s Dinner in November to pay for the community to enjoy a free meal.

Grilling teams needed for WRC fundraiser

For the 13th year, Men Who Grill is set to take over Buckley Park for a day of feasting and fun from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. June 11.

This family event is a fundraiser for the Women’s Resource Center, and this year the center hopes to attract 20 amateur grilling teams from throughout the Four Corners.

Advanced tickets are already on sale through the center’s Eventbrite listing. The fundraising goal is $20,000. This year’s presenting sponsor is Durango Motor Co.

Dog, puppy classes available this summer

Dog training classes will be offered at the Durango Senior Center, 2424 Main Ave,

Pre-registration is required, call Greta at 382-6428 for details.

Orientation for both classes will be held from 10 to 11:30 a.m. May 24. Do not bring dogs to orientation, but bring them to the classes.

Basic Manners for puppies and older dogs will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesdays, May 31 to June 21. Learn leash skills, stay, leave it, pass it, as well as a few other skills. Cost is $20.

Leash skill/focus work will be held from 3:45 to 4:45 p.m. Thursdays, June 2-23. This class will be working on long stays and leash skills, focusing with distractions, and coming when another dog is present. Cost is $20.
