The Hisatsinom Chapter of the Colorado Archaeology Society will present Scott Ortman at 7 p.m. April 28 at the Methodist Church, 515 Park St., Cortez, to discuss “The Magic of Social Networking, Past and Present.”
Ortman will discuss new research that looks at archaeological traces of social networks and their effects.

Men Who Grill will take place from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. June 11 at Buckley Park.
This family-friendly event features all-you-can-eat grilled creations, live music from the Kirk James Blues Band and beer from Steamworks Brewing. Registration is open for amateur grilling teams. Registration to compete in the event is free, but teams must supply their own grills and food to serve. Grilling teams are expected to prepare 500-600 small, appetizer portions of their cuisine for attendees to sample. Grill teams may recruit sponsors to pay for their expenses or can pair up with other businesses.
Food will be judged by a panel of local judges and festival attendees will vote for their favorite team dish. Teams are also encouraged to dress in costumes and decorate their booth with prizes for Best Theme/Décor.
Men Who Grill is a fundraiser for the Women’s Resource Center which creates personal, social and professional growth opportunities for women and girls in La Plata County.
Tickets for Men Who Grill are $20 in advance and $25 at the door. Children 5 to 12 years old are $10 and children younger than 5 are free. Tickets are on sale online through Eventbrite, and they will be available to purchase at Maria’s Bookshop, Backcountry Experience and the Women’s Resource Center beginning May 2.

Fran Sutherlin, a dietitian-nutritionist, will present “Healing Your Gut: Gluten 101” at 6 p.m. Thursday at Pine River Library, 395 Bayfield Center Drive, Bayfield.
Participants will learn about gluten and how it impacts their health so that they can improve body aches, stomach discomfort, brain fog, low-energy, and digestive healing.

The Southwest Colorado Genealogical Society and the Durango Public Library will present a free “genealogy drop-in session” to help people start tracing their ancestry from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. April 30 at the Durango Public Library, 1900 East Third Ave.
People can meet one-on-one with a genealogist to get started. Meeting times are limited, so participants are asked to organize their questions and materials before arriving.
