Bibliophiles rejoice: It’s book sale time
Thousands of books will be offered for sale from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday at the Durango Public Library.
Books in every genre can be purchased at the bargain price of $1 per pound. All proceeds benefit the Durango Public Library.
All Friends members and those who wish to become a Friend are invited to shop at the Early Bird Sale from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, after the 5:45 p.m. annual meeting. Anyone who would like to take advantage of this early sale may purchase a $5 Friends membership at this time.

Kiwanis Club to host KSUT’s Tami Greham
Tami Greham, the capital campaign director for public radio station KSUT, will be the guest speaker at the Kiwanis meeting at noon Thursday at the Durango Community Recreation Center, 2700 Main Ave.
She will speak about the KSUT campaign to raise money to move into its new facility, called the Eddie Box Media Center, and how that will enable KSUT to service the community better.
Unitarians will discuss tipping
“The Problem with Tipping,” a presentation and discussion, will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Durango, 419 San Juan Drive.
This presentation will focus on why the restaurant industry doesn’t pay workers the minimum wage, how a two-tiered minimum-wage system affects workers and all of us, and what’s being done to change this antiquated and unfair system.

Hozhoni Days events begin on Thursday
Hozhoni Days, Fort Lewis College’s annual celebration of its unique Native American heritage, will run from Thursday into April.
The events begin with a lecture, “Minding the Indigenous Mind: Stories of Liberation, Brain Waves, Mirror Neurons and Healing” by Dr. Michael Yellow Bird at 6 p.m. Thursday in Room 120 of the Center for Southwest Studies. This event is free and open to everyone.
A number of craft workshops will also be a part of the Hozhoni Days schedule, including a Dentalium earrings workshop on Monday, a women’s traditional cloth dress workshop on March 28 and April 4, and a women’s shawl workshop on April 11.

The traditional heart of Hozhoni Days has always been the Miss Hozhoni Pageant and Powwow. The pageant begins March 30 and continues April 6 and April 13. The winner will be crowned April 16 and serve as Fort Lewis College’s official Native American ambassador.
The powwow starts April 15 and continues through April 16. The Hozhoni Days Powwow is one of the largest and longest-running Fort Lewis College traditions.

Historian examines using computers
“Visualizing History: Writing Historical Narratives with Computer-Aided Design Modeling” with speaker Joshua K. Salyers will take place at 6 p.m. Monday in the Lyceum Room of the Center of Southwest Studies at Fort Lewis College.
Salyers is a 2015-2016 doctoral fellow at the Center of Southwest Studies. After a brief discussion of his projects at the center, he will give a presentation on his work creating digital interactive models of historical spaces.

Chimney Rock recruits volunteers
The public is invited to the annual spring Chimney Rock Interpretive Association Open House from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday at The Springs Resort (EcoLuxe Building) in Pagosa Springs.
The open house offers an opportunity to meet current volunteers and learn about the many ways one can volunteer with the nonprofit group to help at Chimney Rock National Monument.
