Durango Bird Club to meet Friday

Durango Bird Club will meet at 7 p.m. Friday at the Department of Wildlife Museum at the Durango Fish Hatchery, 151 E. 15th St.

Riley Morris will present a “Bad Photo Bird Quiz.” The public is welcome. The club meets every two months. Monthly field outings are offered.

Bootleggers society to host benefit

Durango Bootleggers Society will host the society’s Spring Tonic Release and Repeal of Prohibition Party to benefit the La Plata County Historical Society at 6 p.m. April 7 at El Moro Spirits and Tavern, 945 Main Ave.

Duane Smith, historian, author and Fort Lewis College professor, will be on hand to speak about Prohibition and its repeal – and how it played out in Durango.

Party guests are encouraged to wear “speakeasy” fashions, and prizes will be awarded for “Best Dressed” attendees.

The Bootleggers Society’s annual specialty brew, the Spring Tonic elixir, which is co-brewed by the brewers, will be tapped at 6 p.m. and served in a commemorative jar.

The Spring Tonic is an American pre-prohibition lager brewed from a recipe thought to be from the late 1800s.

A portion of all beverage sales from the evening will be presented to the Historical Society.

Additional donations can be made to the Bootleggers Society Fund, earmarked for the Historical Society.

County quilters guild to meet today

The La Plata Quilters Guild will meet at 5:30 p.m. today at Christ the King Lutheran Church, 495 Florida Road.

Sonja Hammond will present a demonstration of new quilting rulers. People interested in quilting are invited to become a member.

Pine River 4-H Club to host dance April 5

Bayfield Pine River 4-H Club will host a dance from 8 p.m. to midnight April 5 at the Pine River Senior Center, 111 W. South St., Bayfield.

The club will have a fundraising bake sale and cake walk.

Admission is $5 per person, $20 for a family of 5, and children 5 and younger are free.

Introduction to Google Drive offered April 10

Ignacio Public Library, 470 Goddard Ave. in Ignacio, will host “Introduction to Google Drive” at 1 p.m. April 10.

Participants will learn how to use Google’s cloud storage service Google Drive, which allows people to store their documents, photos and videos online.

From Drive people can also access Google Docs, where they can create, share, and collaborate with documents, spreadsheets and presentations. Sign-up is required.

Local time bank to meet Sunday

Hour Exchange La Plata, the new local time bank, will host a free orientation and potluck Sunday at Pine River Library, 395 Bayfield Center Drive.

Orientation will take place at 4 p.m. followed by a potluck at 5 p.m.

Participants will earn time credits for attending, and are asked to bring food to share, and new guests.

People planning to join are asked to bring a laptop or mobile device if possible.
