September is National Senior Center Month.

La Plata County has three senior centers serving the area’s senior citizens – Durango, Bayfield and Ignacio. To help celebrate Senior Center Month, the La Plata Council on Aging invites seniors and the general public to stop by at one of the centers and see firsthand what programs and activities are available. Newsletters are available at the centers or people can read a newsletter online by typing in “La Plata County Senior Services.” The Durango center serves lunch seven days a week, and people should call for a reservation to 382-6445 before 9:30 a.m. or earlier for the day they’d like to eat lunch. People younger than 60 years of age pay $7, and the suggested donation for seniors is $4. Visitors are welcome.
