Santa Rita Park playground closed

The playground in Santa Rita Park is closed to the public during the renovation of the playground area.

The existing playground will be removed and a new playground will be installed during winter.

The new playground will include a variety of play features and rubberized surfacing material to enhance accessibility to all users. The project is partially funded by a $150,000 grant from the state of Colorado Department of Local Affairs with money from the Energy and Mineral Impact Assistance Fund. The new playground is expected to be completed and open in spring 2016.

Arts center a part of Colorado Gives Day

The Durango Arts Center, a Colorado-based nonprofit, announces it will be part of Colorado Gives Day, an annual statewide movement to celebrate and increase philanthropy through online giving.

On Tuesday, Durangoans are invited to “Give Local and Make Art Happen” by making a secure online donation to the center. Colorado Gives Day is powered by ColoradoGives.org, a year-round, online giving website.

To access the center’s profile, visit www.coloradogives.org/DurangoArtsCenter.

The donations will assist the center in offering exhibits, performances and art education for people of all ages.

Each $10 donation will assist the center in earning a share of the $1 Million Incentive Fund. Community First Foundation and FirstBank each contributed $500,000 to create the fund. Every nonprofit receiving a donation on Colorado Gives Day receives a portion of the fund, which increases the value of every dollar donated.

Through the end of 2015, the center is a certified Enterprise Zone contribution project, which provides donors a 25 percent Colorado state tax credit on contributions of $250 or more.
