Take a Harry Potter talking, writing class

A Harry Potter discussion and writing class taught by Rachel Turiel will take place from 3:45 to 5 p.m. Tuesdays from July 14 to Aug. 11 in the Storytime Room of the Durango Public Library, 1900 East Third Ave.

Class participants will discuss literary themes and plot twists of all seven books, play games, unearth obscure factoids and do in-class, Hogwarts-themed creative writing assignments.

Bayfield library to offer gardening classes

The Pine River Library, 395 Bayfield Center Drive, will offer these gardening classes:

“Gardening Q-and-A” with Heather Gray will take place at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday. This session will allow area gardeners to have their questions answered by a local expert. Gray is the greenhouse manager and educator for Growing Spaces in Pagosa Springs.

A free workshop about soil health will take place at 5:30 p.m. July 16. Participants must register in advance for this class. Anyone interested in finding out about their own soil can bring in a coffee-can size sample for analysis at the class. Taught by Dr. Phil Shuler, professor of environmental public health at Fort Lewis College. The course will cover soil fertility and health, soil remediation and crop production.

“Permaculture” will take place at 5:30 p.m. July 23. The class will give attendees an overview of what permaculture means and how it works. The class also will be taught by Gray.

Breast-feeding class offered at Kids Rock

A breast-feeding workshop for expectant parents will take place from 6 to 8 p.m. July 15 at Kids Rock, 563 Main Ave.

Snacks and a breast-feeding booklet will be provided. Partners are strongly encouraged to attend.

Writers and Scribblers to meet Wednesday

Writers and Scribblers will meet from 3:30 to 5 p.m. Wednesday at Pine River Valley Bank, 1701 Main Ave.

“Ideas and Inspiration: An Open Discussion About Why We Write” will be hosted by Melissa Stacy.
