Daybreak Rotary will hear from Argentinian

The Daybreak Rotary Club will hear Argentinian Luis Schattner, a member of the 9 de Julio club in Formosa, Argentina, at its meeting at 7 a.m. Wednesday at the Durango Community Recreation Center, 2700 Main Ave.

Schattner is instrumental in organizing international grants for Rotarians’ humanitarian efforts. He will visit for two days, along with his wife, Sara. A number of past district governors from District 5470, as well as current governor Clyde Church and a number of other interested parties will attend an informational lunch/workshop later to explore the future vision for proposed global grants.

Bayfield library creating oral histories

As part of a grant-funded project, the Pine River Library in Bayfield is creating oral histories of Pine River Valley residents.

With the help of local interns, library staff will record interviews with any local resident who is interested, with a focus on lifelong Bayfield-area residents. Once the interviews are recorded and edited, the library will share them online and in the library.

A September “Heritage Hub Showcase” will debut the interviews, presenting them on the library’s large movie screen.

Natural Foods Co-op announces programs

The Durango Natural Foods Co-op, 575 East Eighth Ave., will offer these programs:

A talk on conscious eating and movement will be hosted by Sage Peterson at 6 p.m. Wednesday. People will learn how to transform their body, balance their emotions and claim their life with the proper cleanse.

A Clothing and Gear Swap will take place at 5:30 p.m. June 11. Participants should bring gear, outfits, clothes, hats, shoes, bags and accessories to swap or sell. People may bring men’s, women’s or children’s items in reasonable condition and a table, blanket or other mode of display.

Chef Safari speaks at Kiwanis Club

The Kiwanis Club of Durango will welcome Arnold Ngumbao, known as “Chef Safari,” to its meeting from noon to 1 p.m. Thursday at the Durango Community Recreation Center, 2700 Main Ave.

Ngumbao originally came to Durango as a guest chef at the Mahogany Grille at the Strater Hotel. At the time, he was the chef at a five-star resort in Zanzibar in Tanzania. He returned to Durango and became the executive chef at the Strater Hotel. Safari will entertain members with his stories. Guests are welcome.

FLC committees to meet Thursday

The Business Affairs Committee of the Board of Trustees for Fort Lewis College will meet at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, followed by the Academic & Student Affairs Committee at 2:30 p.m. The Presidential Evaluation Committee will meet at 3:45 p.m.

The meetings will be held in the President’s Conference Room, 2503 Berndt Hall at FLC.
