Caregiver support to be discussed Thursday
Suggestions and information about resources specifically for loved ones and caregivers of people with Alzheimer’s and dementia will be discussed at 1 p.m. Thursday at Sunshine Gardens Country Home, 2518 Colorado Highway 172.
Elaine Stumpo, regional director for the local Alzheimer’s Association will speak.

Marvel Grange to host Bunco night
The Marvel Grange will host Bunco and a potluck at 7 p.m. Friday at the grange hall, 217 County Road 133A.
The potluck supper will take place at 7 p.m. followed by Bunco. No experience is necessary.
Frosty Pines to host open house, jamboree
Frosty Pines Frontier Village Summer Program will host an open house and jamboree from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the Pine Song Tree Farm, 12758 County Road 501, Bayfield.
Participants will meet the instructors, go on tours of the village, ask questions, participate in games, listen to live music and have an opportunity to see what kids will do at Frontier Village this summer. Snacks will be provided.

Cattlemen to host annual banquet
The La Plata-Archuleta Cattlemen will host its 63rd annual banquet Saturday at the Sky Ute Event Center in Ignacio.
Social hour will begin at 6 p.m., a prime-rib buffet will take place at 7 p.m. followed by dancing to the music of The High Rollers. Tickets can be purchased at Basin Co-op in Durango, Pine River Valley Bank in Bayfield, Wells Fargo Bank in Ignacio and Boot Hill in Pagosa Springs through today.

Bayfield library to host Earth Day event
Pine River Library will host an Earth Day Celebration at 3:30 p.m. Monday at 395 Bayfield Center Drive, Bayfield.
The event will feature free Earth chocolates; a musical jam session with Tom Molinelli and David Pfeifer; Frosty Pines Wilderness Education leaders will teach a seed-paper craft for kids; and free food from Baked in Telluride.
After the celebration, a Groundbreaking Ceremony will be held for the Community Garden. The space offers 20 garden beds for community members to use. Interested participants need to fill out an application, with each spot assigned through a lottery. Applications for the garden plots can be found at prlibrary.org and are due by 5 p.m. Monday.
A free screening of the documentary “Bidder 70” will take place at 7 p.m., and a discussion will follow.

AARP driver-safety class set for April 24
An AARP Driver Safety Program will be held from 12:30 to 4:30 p.m. April 24 in the Pine Room of La Plata County Fairgrounds, 2500 Main Ave.
This classroom refresher course is especially designed for drivers age 50 and older. Auto-insurance discounts are available in most states through an insurance agent.
The cost is $12 for AARP members and $14 for nonmembers.

Durango Discovery Museum, 1333 Camino del Rio, will host the programs:
Free Community Cinema will show “The Island President” from 5:30 to 8 p.m. today. The film will be followed by a panel discussion led by Durango mayor, Dick White.
“Backyard Chickens” will be presented from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Thursday. Ranch-Way Feeds Territory Manager, Kelly Sutherlin, will lead the discussion.
Trivia Night will take place at 6 p.m. Thursday.
Pub Science will take place at 6 p.m. Friday.
Egg Candling and Chick Holding will take place from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. daily through April.

Community Connections public forum to be held
A public forum about Community Connections will be held from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. April 25 at the main office at 281 Sawyer Drive.
The group will discuss developmental disability services in the area and review Community Connections’ 2011-14 strategic plan.
Kidfest event slated for April 27 in Cortez
In honor of the Month of the Young Child, The Children’s Kiva invites children of all ages and their families to the 11th annual Kidfest from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. April 27 in the Cortez City Park, on E. Main Street between Mildred Road and Park Street.
Kidfest will feature live entertainment, arts and crafts activities, face painting, relay races, food vendors and more.
Admission is free, but donations are appreciated. The Children’s Kiva Montessori School is a nonprofit organization offering preschool and kindergarten to children ages 3 to 6.
