DHS drug-awareness event will be Sept. 14

The entire community is invited to a free prescription drug-awareness presentation at 7 p.m. Sept. 14 at the Durango High School Auditorium, 2390 Main Ave.

According to the JP Prescription Drug Foundation, someone dies of an accidental prescription drug overdose every 14 minutes in the United States.

Walk offers help with mental health needs

“You are Enough: A Walk for Mental Illness & Suicide Awareness” will be held from 6 to 8:15 p.m. Sept. 17 at Fort Lewis College’s Track (at Whalen Field).

The event will also include educational tables by local organizations, speeches from community members, and a candlelight vigil.

Animas Grange to host barbecue

Animas Valley Grange will host a community barbecue and potluck picnic from 3-7 p.m. Saturday at 7271 County Road 203.

Burgers made with James Ranch grass-fed beef, hot dogs and beverages will also be served. Attendees should bring a side dish to share, as well as produce from their own gardens for a garden-share table.

The Will Cooter Gang will play, children’s activities will be available and local growers The Adobe House Farm and 550 Farm will sell produce.
