Rotary club to meet Tuesday

Chris Nelson, director of Animal Services for the La Plata County Humane Society, will speak to the Rotary Club of Durango at 6 p.m. Tuesday at the Strater Hotel, 699 Main Ave.

The humane society is an open-admission animal shelter serving La Plata and surrounding counties, handling more than 3,000 animals every year. The humane society is funded through grants, its thrift store and donations from the public. All animals adopted out were spayed or neutered, made current on vaccinations and given a microchip identity implant. The humane society also provides low-cost spay and neuter surgeries, vaccinations and microchip implants to pets belonging to the public.

Daybreak Rotary Club to meet Wednesday

Roberta Eichman, massage therapist and owner of a welcome service, New-In-Town Welcome Service, that greets new residents and welcomes them into the community will share her experience with Daybreak Rotarians at 7 a.m. Wednesday at the Durango Community Recreation Center, 2700 Main Ave.

The public is welcome.

Panel to discuss marijuana Thursday

Fort Lewis College’s Student Wellness Initiatives program will host a panel discussion examining the issues around marijuana use and the marijuana industry in Colorado at 6 p.m. Thursday in the Student Union Ballroom at Fort Lewis College.

Panelists include members of the medical, scientific and law-enforcement communities, as well as the city of Durango and the marijuana industry. The goal is to provide a forum to investigate the financial, legal, health and other issues associated with marijuana.

Kiwanis Club to meet Thursday

The Kiwanis Club of Durango will host a recruitment meeting at noon Thursday at the Durango Community Recreation Center, 2700 Main Ave.

Information about the Kiwanis at its mission will be presented. Members will talk about service projects and fundraisers such as Pancake Day and the Bill Mashaw Golf Tournament that people can be involved in. Lunch will be provided.

Yoga for families to be offered

“FamilyTime Yoga” for families and caregivers with children ages 4 to 10 with Joy Kilpatrick will take place from 3 to 4:30 p.m. Sunday at Yogadurango, 1140-A, Main Ave.

This on-going class is offered the first Sunday of the month.
