Coupon book to have local economy theme
The Be Local Book, which is sold at a variety of merchants around Durango, provides coupons, story pages, photographs and educational facts about local economies.
The theme this year, “Getting Schooled: Learning about a Local Economy,” uses local artists, designers and photographers to present a variety of facts about the benefits of a local economy based on independently owned businesses.
The book includes a quiz, course list and report card, among other info-graphics. The book is a popular gift.
Local First, a nonprofit La Plata County business alliance, publishes the book as part of its mission to support and provide locally owned, independent businesses and organizations opportunities to thrive.

Auction to benefit Boys & Girls Club
The Boys & Girls Club of La Plata County will host its eighth annual Bid for Kids Online Auction through Nov. 30.
The auction provides individuals from around the country the ability to bid on items and packages provided by local businesses.
Items to bid on include lift tickets, getaways, Bronco tickets, Durango vacation packages, restaurant gift certificates, spa treatments and more.

Kiwanis Club to meet on Thursday
The Kiwanis Club of Durango will welcome Chloe Wiebe as its guest speaker at noon Thursday at the Durango Community Recreation Center, 2700 Main Ave.
Wiebe is the regional supervisor of Southwest Workforce Centers. Workforce centers provide free work-related services to both employers and job seekers, assisting in the process of matching prospective employees with employers seeking qualified applicants.
The centers also provide labor market information as well as job fairs to link applicants and employers.
