Bluebird boxes available for sale

The Colorado Parks and Wildlife museum volunteer group has cedar bluebird boxes available for sale for $25 at the Colorado Parks and Wildlife Service Center, located near 15th Street and Main Avenue from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday to Friday.

Donations will help volunteers maintain the Wildlife Visitor Center. The museum will be open to the public beginning May 15.

FLC investment panel holds teleconference

The Investment Advisory Committee of the Fort Lewis College Board of Trustees will have a teleconference meeting at 11 a.m. Thursday in Room 230 of the Education/Business Building at FLC.

The committee will receive investment activity updates, discuss the process for the addition of members to the committee, and discuss mechanisms for gathering stakeholder input.

FLC trustee meetings to continue Friday

Business Affairs Committee of the Fort Lewis College Board of Trustees will meet at 9 a.m. Friday followed by the Academic & Student Affairs Committee at 10 a.m.

Powerhouse to show antique cameras

Gerald Wells, the Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad and The Powerhouse Science Center are hosting an antique camera exhibit, with pieces dating back to 1838 at the Powerhouse Science Center, 1333 Camino del Rio.

The exhibit features pieces from the Gable House, from Jackson Clarke and from Mike Kessler’s collection. Wells will provide a storytelling lecture at 6 p.m. Friday about the history of photography and some of its most infamous characters.

Learn about personal histories on Thursday

The Durango High Noon Rotary Club will meet from 11:45 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday at the DoubleTree Hotel, 501 S. Camino del Rio.

The cost for lunch is $15. Local author John Peel will speak about the personal history movement.

Hear about healthful eating on a budget

Mercy Regional Medical Center will offer “Healthy Eating on a Budget,” a free community presentation hosted by Mercy Nutrition Therapy and The Garden Project of Southwest Colorado at 5:30 p.m. April 6 at the Durango Public Library, 1900 East Third Ave.

Mercy registered dietitians Marge Morris and Marissa Kleinsmith will discuss top nutrition tips to achieve wellness, and how to plan and prepare affordable, nutritious and delicious meals. Sandhya Tillotson, executive director of The Garden Project, will introduce ways to incorporate locally sourced foods into a diet. Healthful hors d’oeuvres will be served. Seating is limited.

This is the first of six interactive sessions that will address how easy, affordable and tasty it can be to achieve better health through proper nutrition. Details about upcoming classes will be available at the April 6 event and online at mercydurango.org.

Play hoops and help fund scholarships

The Dirk & Colt Ross Memorial Basketball Tournament will take place April 7-9 in Pagosa Springs.

Proceeds will go to a scholarship fund to benefit the local youth of Pagosa Springs. All divisions are full, with a total of 36 teams competing.

Games will take place at these locations: 6 to 10 p.m. April 7 at the junior high and middle school gyms; 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. April 8 at the junior high, middle and high school; 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. April 9 at the high school; and 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. April 9 at the junior high and middle school gyms.

To help with the concession stand, call Loretta Ross at 264-5266. Admission is $5 for adults, and $3 for students per day. Children younger than 8 are free.

Rep. Tipton to hold Cortez town hall

U.S. Rep. Scott Tipton, R-Cortez, will host a town hall meeting for all citizens of Cortez and the surrounding communities/areas from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Montezuma County Annex Building, 103 N. Chestnut St. in Cortez.

This event is an open forum for constituents of Colorado’s 3rd Congressional District to voice their concerns, share ideas, ask questions and receive a legislative update from Rep. Tipton.
