Christ the King Youth Game Time to be held

Christ the King Lutheran Church’s new youth director, Jake Heady, invites all Durango youth to a Game Time on Sunday from 1 to 4 p.m.

Food and beverages will be provided.

Dog training classes offered for $20

Two dog training classes will be offered at the Durango Senior Center, 2424 Main Ave.

Orientation for both classes will be held from 10 to 11:30 a.m. May 24. Do not bring dogs to orientation, but bring them to the classes.

Basic Manners for puppies and older dogs will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesdays, May 31 to June 21. Learn leash skills, stay, leave it, pass it, as well as a few other skills. Cost is $20.Leash skill/focus work will be held from 3:45 to 4:45 p.m. Thursdays, June 2 and 23. This class will be working on long stays and leash skills, focusing with distractions, and coming when another dog is present. Cost is $20.Pre-registration is required. Senior Center offers computer classes

Two computer classes instructed by Jon Cordalis will be held at the Durango Senior Center, 2424 Main Ave.

Both classes run from 9 a.m. to noon and cost $15. Participants must pre-register and pre-pay for classes.

May 24th, “Getting the Most from Your iPad/iPhone 1”: Tuesday, Review basic operations, apps and related issues, keyboarding, settings, Internet, photos, troubleshooting of common device issues and more. Prerequisites: understand basic operations. Bring your device to class and know your Apple ID and password. iPad and iPhone specific (no other smartphones or tablets, please).May 26th, “Getting the Most from Your iPad/iPhone 2”: A continuation of the first class. You will cover more ways to get the most from your iPad/iPhone and use it efficiently, and explore the included apps and some of the many useful free apps. In the process, you will also review basic iPad/iPhone skills and features of the IOS operating system. This is an Apple iPad/iPhone class; other tablets and smartphones will not be covered.To reserve a spot, contact Greta Kirker, recreation coordinator, at 382-6428, by fax at (970) 247-9757 or in person at the Durango/La Plata Senior Center, 2424 Main Ave.

Wildlife underpass construction resumes

The Colorado Department of Transportation is continuing a project started last fall to construct a wildlife underpass on U.S. Highway 160 between Bayfield and Durango, located at Dry Creek, about five miles east of the junction of U.S. Highway 160 and Colorado Highway 172.

The total cost is estimated at $6.5 million. It will be completed in August. The project constructs a large mammal underpass, a pre-cast concrete arch structure with a natural earth bottom.

Wildlife museum has bluebird boxes

The Colorado Parks and Wildlife museum volunteer group has cedar bluebird boxes for sale for $25 at the Colorado Parks and Wildlife Service Center, near 15 Street and Main Avenue, co-located with the Fish Hatchery.

Purchase them from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Your donations will help the volunteers maintain the Wildlife Visitor Center.

The Irish Embassy Pub to host Laugh Therapy

Laugh Therapy will be held at The Irish Embassy Pub, 900 Main Ave., Thursday from 8 to 10 p.m.

Open-mic, stand-up comics must be signed up by 7:30 p.m. Show is 18 and older because material is not appropriate for all audiences.

It will be hosted by Dan Korman.

The top three comics from this open mic will be invited to perform a paid set at the Laugh Therapy Showcase on June 4.
