The city of Durango will host an open house for youth finalists and their public art proposals from 4 to 6 p.m. Wednesday at the Durango Public Library, 1900 East Third Ave.
The open house will showcase and seek community input on three youth finalist public art proposals. Public comments will be used to assist the art selection committee in determining which work of art will be created and installed at the city’s Carnegie building and become part of the city’s collection of public art.
Those unable to attend the open house are invited to use Virtual City Hall to provide feedback at www.durangogov.org/virtualcityhall.
A decision is expected in mid-May, and the artwork is expected to be completed during the fall semester.
Backcountry Experience and The Rock Lounge will host a two-day climbing festival with educational clinics and gear demos for beginning and advanced climbers Saturday and May 1 at the Rock Lounge, 1111 Camino del Rio, Suite 105.
The owner of Rock Lounge, Marcus Garcia, and his staff will lead a variety of clinics focusing on fitness through climbing as well as developing new skills and techniques.
