Basics of canning topic of workshop

“Canning Basics for Safe Preserving” workshop will be taught from 1 to 3 p.m. and 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. May 26 at the La Plata Fair Grounds, 2500 Main Ave.

Learn all about the how and why of preserving food at home. The workshop is $10. Preregistration is required.

Airport presentation to be held Monday

Roger Zalneraitis will present proposals concerning the airport at 7 p.m. Monday at the Extension Building, 2500 Main Ave., La Plata County Fairgrounds, during the La Plata-Archuleta Cattlemen’s Association meeting.

Youths involved with activities sponsored by the Cattlemen will be making presentations. The public is welcome.

Resource Advisory Committee to meet

The San Juan Title II Resource Advisory Committee will meet 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday at the San Juan Public Lands Center, 15 Burnett Court.

The committee members will review previously approved projects and recommend current project proposals to the U.S. Forest Service for funding under the Title II provision of the Secure Rural Schools Act.

The public is welcome, and a public comment period will be from 11:30 a.m. to noon.

Celebrate National Red Shirt Day today

The Durango Elks Lodge has arranged for a community group photo at Ninth Street and Main Avenue under the Red Shirt Friday Banner at 11:30 a.m. today.

Wear your red shirt and remember service members on deployment on National Red Shirt Day. National red shirts are on sale from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday at the Durango Elks Lodge, 901 East Second Ave.

A list of Red Shirt Friday business discount sponsors will be available at the event today and anytime at the Durango Elks Lodge.
