Time bank offers introductory talk

Hour Exchange La Plata time bank invites the public to a free introductory talk and software orientation from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in Durango, 910 East Third Ave.

Those considering joining the time bank should bring a laptop (preferable) or mobile device for the orientation.

Parenting workshop offered Thursday

La Plata Field School Learning Coop will host a Conscious Parenting Spring Workshop, “Empathy as a First Response,” led by Rachel Turiel.

Learn how to employ empathy as the first response to your children’s big emotions (and your own). The workshop will be held from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday in the Smiley Building, third floor, Room 32 at 4 Corners Yoga Studio. Suggested donation is $10-15.

City Council seeks board volunteers

The Durango City Council seeks volunteers interested in serving on the Library Advisory Board or the Natural Lands Preservation Advisory Board.

Durango’s boards and commissions provide a foundation for public input and are a way for residents to get involved with their community. They generally meet on a monthly basis. Brief interviews with applicants will be conducted by city councilors in mid-May.

Hesperus holds Hawaiian fundraiser

A Hawaiian Pa’ina (Hawaiian party) will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday at Ridgewood Event Center, 16000 U.S. Highway 140, Hesperus.

Entertainment will be provided by local hula dancers Li’ana and class, Moana Greer, Sleeping Uke players and Lisa Blue. The menu will include Hawaiian food (garlic shrimp, spam musubi, teriyaki chicken, Kailua pig, rice, mac salad, coconut ice cream and more.

Tickets are $30 at the door, $25 if pre-purchased, and kids 10 and younger get in for free. Proceeds go to Manna Soup Kitchen and the culinary program in Durango.

Quilters Guild to meet at First United church

The La Plata Quilters Guild meeting Thursday will feature a presentation by Maika Christensen on “A Quilted Marvel,” free motion quilting on your home machine.

The social gathering begins at 5:30 p.m., and the meeting starts at 6 p.m. at First United Methodist Church, 2917 Aspen Drive. Guests are welcome.
