Democratic Debate Watch Party Saturday

A Democratic Debate Watch Party will take place from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Durango Joe’s, 732 E. College Drive.

Deadline extended for boards, commissions

The La Plata County Board of County Commissioners has extended the deadline to Jan. 4 for individuals interested in applying to serve on the following county boards and commissions: Board of Adjustment; Board of Appeals; Citizens Review Panel for Child Welfare Grievances; Community Corrections Board; Durango Hills Road Improvement District Board (must live within Durango Hills District); Durango-La Plata County Airport Commission; Extension Advisory Board; Fire Code Board of Appeals (visit website for openings); Historic Preservation Review Commission; Ignacio, Allison, Oxford Cemetery District Committee; Ignacio Community Library District Board; Lake Durango Water Authority (retail customer of water authority); Living with Wildlife Advisory Board; Lodging Tax Panel; Long Term Finance Committee; Pine River Public Library District Board; Planning Commission; Southwest (Region 9) Workforce Board; and Undesirable Plant & Rodent Advisory Commission.

Students sought for culinary program

Manna Soup Kitchen in conjunction with Southwest Colorado Community College is currently seeking students interested in a career in the culinary field.

Manna’s culinary program is a 16-week accredited class that is aimed toward anyone with interest in cooking. Enrollment is currently taking place at Southwest Community College for the Jan. 18 fourth-semester class.

Slash piles to be burned at McPhee

The San Juan National Forest Dolores Ranger District plans to burn slash piles built up from fuels-reduction efforts on 60 acres at McPhee Park, beginning Thursday.

McPhee Park is located 12 miles north of Dolores on the Dolores-Norwood Road (Forest Service Road No. 526) at its intersection with Forest Service Road No. 531. This effort will be the district’s final pile burning for this calendar year.

Kiwanis Club to meet Thursday

The Kiwanis Club of Durango announces that Amy Schwarzback, executive director of La Plata Open Space Conservancy, will be its guest speaker at noon Thursday at the Durango Community Recreation Center, 2700 Main Ave.
