The Durango Elks Lodge will hold its fourth annual Community Baby Shower from 1-3 p.m. Saturday at 901 East Second Ave.
The shower is a community celebration for all the area’s expectant or new mothers. The public is invited to attend and help celebrate and support these women.
A light lunch will be served, and moms will receive items to help with the care of their infants. Staff members from the La Plata Family Center Coalition will be on hand to answer questions about available community services.
An RSVP is required for mothers wishing to attend. Please call Lori at 759-1792 to RSVP or for more information. The Elks are accepting donations of new baby items or funds to purchase baby items for the event. Donations may be dropped off at the lodge after 11 a.m. daily.
The U.S. National Park Service turns 100 in August, and Mesa Verde National Park is holding two events to mark the occasion.
At 7 p.m. Aug. 19, a Four Corners Lecture Series entitled “Happy Birthday, National Park Service: 100 Years of the Birth and Growth of America’s Best Idea” will take place. The program will be held in the Chapin Mesa Museum auditorium. The presentation is free, but a park entrance fee is required.
At 9 a.m. Aug. 25, a tour of the Mesa Verde Visitor & Research Center will be held.
This one-hour tour will be free with park admission. Get a behind-the-scenes look at artifacts and archives associated with Mesa Verde’s famous former residents. The tour is limited to 15 people, and pre-registration is suggested. Call 529-5074 to register.
Durango Nursery and Supply is having its annual Dog Days of Summer Pet Photography Contest during the month of August.
Entrants have a chance to win a gift certificate, and photographs will be displayed on the Durango Nursery and Supply website, Facebook, and Pinterest.
