AARP Smart Drive classes to be offered
The AARP Smart Driver class will take place at 8:30 a.m. Thursday at the La Plata County Fairgrounds in the Pine Room, 2500 Main Ave.
A three-year insurance discount is available to people who complete the class, and light refreshments will be available. The cost is $15 for AARP members and $20 for nonmembers.
A Smart Driver class also will be offered from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. April 10 at the Pagosa Springs Senior Center, 451 Hot Springs Blvd.

Motorcycle expo to benefit Blue Star Moms
Blue Star Mothers Durango Chapter 1 will host the ninth annual Motorcycle Expo & Swap Meet along with a benefit auction from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. March 29 and from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. March 30 at the La Plata County Fairgrounds, 2500 Main Ave.
The auction will take place at 1 p.m. March 30. Food and beverages will be available.

Railroad association to meet March 29
Silver San Juan Division of the National Model Railroad Association will meet on March 29 at the First Presbyterian Church, 843 N. Dustin Ave., Farmington.
The meeting will start with a social gathering at 9 a.m. The morning program will include presentations by Dennis Krausman, superintendent of the South Suburban Division on “Stock Cars” and “Scratchbuilding Structures.” Local member Ray Schmudde will speak on “Track Planning.”
A model contest, with the subject “My Favorite Structure,” will be given. Members are encouraged to bring their favorite structure model, completed or not, photos if the structure is mounted on their layout or drawings of a planned structure. First place will receive a one-year newsletter subscription of From the Workbench.
A train contest and contest award presentations also will take place. A tour of home layouts will conclude the meeting.
Community book discussion to be held
A Community Book Discussion on Behind the Kitchen Door, a book by Saru Jayaraman, will take place from noon to 1:30 p.m. March 30 at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship Hall, 419 San Juan Drive.
The sustainable food movement addresses health, environmental impacts and humane treatment of animals.

The Pine River Library, 395 Bayfield Center Drive in Bayfield, will show these films as part of its “Starry Nights” film series:
“It Happened One Night” will be shown at 7 p.m. March 31.
“In the Heat of the Night” will be shown at 7 p.m. April 7.
“A Night at the Opera” will be shown at 7 p.m. April 14.
“Midnight Lace” will be shown at 7 p.m. April 21.
Local film expert, Dennis Taylor, will discuss behind-the-scenes stories about each movie.

Mercy Medical Center to host blood drives
These blood drives will take place at Mercy Regional Medical Center:
From 3 to 6:45 p.m. April 1 in Conference Room A, located by the cafeteria.
From 10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. April 4 in the Bloodmobile which will be parked in the lot by the Healing Gardens located towards the entrance to the cafeteria.
