Meditation class begins in February at Dharma
Durango Dharma Center leader Maureen Fallon-Cyr will present a six-week Beginning Meditation class on successive Wednesdays, from 6 to 7:30 p.m., from Feb. 3 through March 9 in the Dharma Center, 1800 East Third Ave., Suite 109.
Using insight meditation, participants will explore mindfulness and meditation, which help calm the mind and body.
In developing these new skills, participants can ease stress, pain and other difficulties.
Time will be available for questions and discussion in support of an individual’s practice.
All are welcome: beginners as well as experienced practitioners interested in a refresher course.

Direct flights to L.A. start on June 2
Beginning June 2, American Airlines will begin new nonstop Saturday service between Durango-La Plata County Airport and Los Angeles International Airport.
The service will operate through Aug. 22. American will operate the service with CRJ-700 jets, with seating for 70 passengers.
The flight will leave Los Angeles at 8:01 a.m. and arrive at the Durango airport at 11:42 a.m.
The jet will leave Durango at 12:20 p.m. and arrive in Los Angeles at 2:07 p.m.
Flights are available for purchase now.
Medicaid and CHP+ guidance offered
On the first Monday of each month, Vivian Shawcroft, family health coordinator for San Juan Basin Health Department, will offer one-on-one guidance for Medicaid and CHP+ from 9 a.m. to noon in Study Room 5 at the Durango Public Library, 1900 East Third Ave.
Assistance will be provided on a first-come, first-served basis.
This service is offered as part of the collaboration between the San Juan Basin Health Department and the Durango Public Library.

Live at The Met continues Saturday
The Community Concert Hall at Fort Lewis College, in partnership with The Metropolitan Opera, will continue presentation of The Met: Live in HD Saturday with Giacomo Puccini’s “Turandot” at 10:55 a.m. in the Vallecito Room of the Student Union at FLC.
“Turandot” will be broadcast live in high definition from New York’s Metropolitan Opera.
The run time is approximately 3 hours, 15 minutes.
