Stomach health class to be held Wednesday

Herbalist Marija Helt will draw on her training as a microbiologist and herbalist in a class on natural support for gut health from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday in Durango.

This class will provide an overview of natural approaches to improve the health of the gut. There is a suggested donation of $15.

La Plata time bank to host presentation

Hour Exchange La Plata (HELP), the local time bank, will offer a free presentation and orientation from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at St. Mark’s Church, 910 East Third Ave.

“Understanding Colorado’s Health Insurance Marketplace,” a presentation by Kevin O’Connor, health coverage guide for San Juan Basin Health Department, will take place at 6 p.m. Nov. 17, Dec. 16 and Jan. 14 at the Durango Public Library, 1900 East Third Ave.

The Affordable Care Act (Obamacare) has increased the availability and affordability of health insurance for many Coloradans.

This presentation will explain what has changed and how a family may be affected.

Emphasis will be on understanding how to obtain health insurance through Connect for Health Colorado, the state’s health insurance marketplace.

The group also will discuss changes in eligibility rules for private insurance, how to get tax credits to help pay for insurance and other programs such as Medicaid.

Presentation focuses on energy efficiency

“Warm, Safe and Affordable: Energy Efficiency for Your Home” will be presented by 4CORE from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the Durango Public Library, 1900 East Third Ave.

Participants will learn about the various ways they can save money on their utility bills this winter, while improving the comfort and safety of their home.

Fall Round Dance to be held at FLC

As part of Native American Heritage Month, the Fort Lewis College Native American & Indigenous Studies program will host a Fall Round Dance at 6:30 p.m. Thursday in the Student Union Ballroom.

The event is free and open to everyone. Parking on campus is free after 5 p.m.

The Fall Round Dance will feature Derrick Keeswood (Diné) as lead singer and Bruce LeClaire (Sicangu Lakota) as stick man. 2015-16 Miss Hozhoni Nicole Lovato (Santo Domingo Pueblo) and her First Attendant Charine Gonzales (San Ildefonso Pueblo) will also be on hand.

In addition to the dance, the event will include a cake walk, door prizes, an Indian taco sale and Native American goods from student vendors.

Local chapter of AARP plans to meet Tuesday

The Durango AARP Chapter No. 1243 will meet at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Durango/La Plata Senior Center, 2424 Main Ave.

The group will discuss plans for the December meeting and meetings in 2016 on the agenda.
