Buchanan celebration March 8 in Silverton

The Buchanans wish to invite family and friends to a celebration of Olivia Buchanan at 3 p.m. March 8 at the Kendall Mountain Recreation Center in Silverton.

Participants are asked to bring stories or memories to share at 3:30 p.m., wear warm clothes and be ready to dance to the sounds of bluegrass. Food and beverages will be provided both inside and on the deck. Bonfire and fireworks will follow.

Contributions in Buchanan’s honor will provide avalanche education for female outdoor enthusiasts; they can be made to the Community Foundation, “The Olivia Buchanan Avalanche Education Fund,” P.O. Box 1673, Durango, CO 81302 or visit www.swcommunityfoundation.org.

Delta Gamma’s to host Founders Day lunch

Four Corners Alumnae Association of Delta Gamma will host its Founders Day Luncheon at 11:30 a.m. Saturday at the Strater Hotel, 699 Main Ave.

Mt. Allison Grange to host chili cookoff

The Mt. Allison Grange’s annual chili contest will take place Saturday.

There will be three categories: red chili, green chili and miscellaneous. There will be a winner in each category and a People’s Choice Award.

All the entries will be served free of charge to the community, starting at 5:30 p.m. Irish bingo will follow with prizes. Homemade baked goods also will be available for purchase.

Riverhouse director will address Rotarians

Carolyn Tinsley, executive director of Riverhouse Children’s Center, will speak to the Rotary Club of Durango at 6 p.m. Tuesday at the Strater Hotel, 699 Main Ave.

Riverhouse is a nonprofit organization providing child care and early education services for children from six weeks through five years old. Having first opened in 2004, it has served more than 600 families since then.

In 2013, Riverhouse built a new facility allowing it to expand its programming. The new location has state-of-the art classrooms, indoor and outdoor play areas, a kitchen, a therapeutic meeting space for special-needs children and a hiking trail. Visitors are welcome.

Investment Committee to meet at FLC

The Investment Advisory Committee of the Board of Trustees for Fort Lewis College will meet from 2 to 4 p.m. Thursday in Room 230 in the Education/Business Hall.

The committee will review and discuss the draft Investment Policy.
