Hesperus Church to hold Bible School

Hesperus Church will hold Vacation Bible School from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Monday through Friday (June 27-July 1), at 22972 Highway 140 in Hesperus.

Children age 3 through eighth grade are invited to come and experience “Submerged” adventures. There is no cost for the week’s events.

Rotary Club sponsors pancake breakfast

The Durango Rotary Club is sponsoring a fundraiser for scholarships and local projects by holding a pancake breakfast from 7:30 to 11 a.m. on the Fourth of July at Durango Rotary Park, behind the VFW building on Main Avenue and 15th Street.

There will be whipped cream, real maple syrup and fruit for pancake toppings, in addition to eggs, smoked ham, orange juice, milk, tea and coffee. Adult tickets are $10 and children ages 5-12 are $5. Kids under 5 are free.

Navajo Reservoir dam set to lower release

The Bureau of Reclamation plans to lower the release from the Navajo Reservoir dam some time early this week, depending on weather conditions.

The “ramp-down” period will last 12 days. Areas near the immediate vicinity of the river channel may still be unstable and dangerous before flows bottom out. The bureau urges people to use extra caution near the river and protect or remove any valuable property in the area.
