Commissioner to hold office hours in Bayfield

La Plata County Commissioner Julie Westendorf will hold office hours for the general public to meet with her from 10 a.m. to noon Thursday at the Bayfield Public Library Conference Room, 395 Bayfield Center Drive.

Peace and Justice Fellowship to meet

The Peace and Justice Fellowship will meet from 6 to 7:30 p.m. the first and third Mondays of each month at 111 Linda Court.

The group will study Biblical Pacifism by Dale Brown. Light refreshments and child care will be provided.

Rotary Club to hear speaker on Islam

Dr. Dennis Aronson will speak to the Rotary Club of Durango on Tuesday on “Everything You Need to Know about Islam.” This will include an overview of the religion’s history, evolution, the Sunni-Shia split and practices. Aronson served in the Peace Corps in Afghanistan in the mid-1960s and later worked in Saudi Arabia and Lebanon.

The club’s dinner meeting starts at 6 p.m. in the Strater Hotel, 699 Main Ave. Visitors are welcome. Call Bruce Rodman at 385-7899 for information.

Reading program party Wednesday in Ignacio

The Summer Reading Program final party will be at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Ignacio Community Library, 470 Goddard Ave. Don Kirk, a local puppeteer and storyteller, will perform.
