The Silver San Juan Division of the National Model Railroad Association will hold a spring public event at 8:30 a.m. May 14 at the Farmington Museum, 3041 E. Main St., Farmington.
The meeting will start with a social gathering at 8:30 a.m.
Association membership applications will be available. The program will include presentations on the history and modeling of narrow gauge cars from locals Dr. Stan Rhine and Jim Griffin.
Charlie Nidever from Arizona will discuss modeling an underground mine. There will also be presentations from the Galloping Goose Society of Dolores and the Durango Railroad Historical Society.
A“From the Workbench” session, where modelers display and discuss their current projects, is planned. All are invited to bring a model, a plan or a photo of their current projects to present to the group.
A favorite train contest, where modelers display their favorite train, will be held as well. Swap tables will be available for members.
Items donated to the division will also be for sale to help fund additional programs.
The Ignacio Community Library will host Open Mic Poetry Night at 5:30 p.m. today. Local poets Ron Yellowbird and Burt Baldwin will read some of their favorite poems.
There will be an open mic time for guests of all ages.

Trails 2000 invites everyone to the 2016 Trailwork Kick Off Party, rescheduled for Wednesday at Overend Mountain Park. Meet at 4 p.m. at the Hidden Valley Trailhead.
The event is sponsored by Alpine Bank and is the kickoff for the 2016 trailwork season.
At the event, attendees will have the opportunity to meet Larry “Reed” Myers, the new Crew Boss for Trails 2000. Myers, a longtime Durango resident, will be guiding volunteers by providing instruction and safety tool talk. All tools, water and snacks are provided. No experience is necessary.
Trails 2000 will host public trailwork each Wednesday, as well as other announced days and times, throughout the trail season.
