Rotary Club to meet for update

The Rotary Club of Durango will hear an update about activities at the Manna Soup Kitchen at the club’s dinner meeting at 6 p.m. on Tuesday at the Strater Hotel, 699 Main Ave.

Speaking will be Kathy Tonnessen, executive director and McKenzie Miller, culinary manager. Visitors are welcome.

Senior Center announces events

The Durango La Plata Senior Center announces the following events:

Computer class from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., Wednesday. Jon Cordalis will lead the workshop on March 9 at the Durango La Plata Senior Center, 2424 Main Ave. The cost is $15. To register and pay in advance, call 382-6428.

Easter lunch at the Senior Center at 11:45 a.m. on March 23. Reservations are required. To make a reservation, call 382-6445 by 9:30 a.m. (or earlier) that morning. The cost for lunch is a suggested donation of $4 for people aged 60 or older, or a $7 fee for people 59 years old or younger. Music will begin at 11:45 a.m. and lunch is served at noon.

Celebration to honor Vietnam veterans from 10:45 to 11:45 a.m. March 29. The Daughters of the American Revolution will honor Vietnam veterans. Veterans who want to be recognized should call 382-6428.

Genealogical group to hold meeting

The Southwest Colorado Genealogical Society will hold its next meeting at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday at the Animas Museum, 3065 West Second Ave.

Following a brief business meeting, Robert McDaniel will give a presentation on Emmet Wirt, who as a teenager left his home and family in Missouri to come west to seek his fortune and created a small empire in the New Mexico-Colorado borderlands before his death in 1937.

The public is encouraged to come and join the meeting. Interested non-members should visit www.swcogen.org. Membership information will be available at the meeting.

HELP invites the public to talk

Hour Exchange La Plata invites the public to a free introductory talk and software orientation from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday at St. Mark’s Church, 910 East Third Ave.
