Customers in the Animas Valley area have been experiencing blinks and some outages in recent weeks, and LPEA crews are actively working to determine the cause. Minor pieces of equipment have been replaced, and weeds and trees were cut or removed, but no significant problem has yet been found within this portion of the system.
LPEA members should be reassured that erring on the side of cutting the flow of electricity may be inconvenient, but it can also prevent electrical fires in dry brush if there is a downed line or fault.
Property owners in the Animas Valley are encouraged to walk their properties and survey areas around electrical lines. If anything looks out of order, call LPEA immediately at 247-5786.
Dr. Stephanie Owings-Edwards, Professor of Economics at Fort Lewis College, will speak to the Rotary Club of Durango during the group’s 6 p.m. Tuesday dinner meeting at the Strater Hotel, 699 Main Ave.
Dr. Owings-Edwards will discuss how people make decisions based on economics and psychology.
While traditional economics assumes people behave rationally to maximize their own well-being, this is not always the case. Behavioral economics demonstrates that although individuals may not always behave rationally, they do behave predictably. Your understanding of the circumstances under which you are likely to make suboptimal decisions can help you avoid these economic errors.
Visitors are welcome to attend, and they can contact Bruce Rodman at 385-7899 for more information.
