Rev. Michael Dowd, bestselling evolutionary evangelist, eco-theologian, and a modern-day, pro-science prophet, will speak at 10 a.m. Sunday at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Durango, 419 San Juan Drive.
Dowd’s work has been featured in The New York Times, Los Angeles Times, The Wall Street Journal, The Washington Post, Newsweek, and national television. His book, Thank God for Evolution, was endorsed by six Nobel Prize-winning scientists, noted skeptics, and religious leaders across the spectrum. Dowd has also delivered two TEDx talks, a program at the United Nations, and addressed more than 2,000 groups across North America.

Fall classes for Ballet Folklorico de Durango will begin at 5:30 p.m. Aug. 29 in El Centro Room 40 in the Student Union at Fort Lewis College.
Practices will continue from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. each Monday through the semester.Ballet Folklorico de Durango is a traditional Mexican dance program provided by El Centro de Muchos Colores Hispano Center at Fort Lewis College. Youth and adult classes are offered for all levels, abilities and experience. Dancers from any background are welcome.
Youth from 5 to 18 years of age and community members of any age may enroll through El Centro at a cost of $60 per dancer for the semester. If two siblings enroll, the second child is $30. FLC students pay no fee. Scholarships are available for students with financial needs. Costumes are available for performers who don’t have their own. All dancers must participate in some fundraising activities to supplement program costs. Donations to assist the scholarship program can be mailed to the FLC Foundation Office with “Ballet Folklorico” in the memo line.
