Marathon to stop traffic Saturday

The Thirsty 13 Half Marathon on Saturday will include 500 runners and cause a brief traffic halt.

The race begins at 8 a.m. at Hesperus Church on La Plata Highway (Colorado Highway 140). Traffic on Highway 140 will be halted between Hesperus Church and County Road 125, a 1.3-mile stretch, for about 10 minutes beginning at 8 a.m.

The race will continue on county roads 125, 141, and 210, then on Bodo Frontage Road, Suttle Drive, Bodo Drive, Turner Drive, Sawyer Street and Girard Street. None of these roads will have closures or restrictions, but drivers should exercise caution and be aware of race participants.

Runners will be on the right shoulder throughout the race, and cars may pass the runners. Please contact the race director at 903-6774 with questions or concerns.

The cloud at Ignacio Library

For those who have heard of cloud computing but aren’t sure what it means or where to access it, Ignacio Community Library’s Cloud Computing 101 offers training at 6 p.m. Sept. 6.

The workshop, at the library, 470 Goddard Ave., will familiarize participants with common cloud applications and help them discover the ease and convenience of cloud computing.

Storytelling to highlight CCC

Author-songwriter Bill Jamerson will present a music and storytelling program about the Civilian Conservation Corps from 6-7 p.m. Sept. 7 at the Mancos Public Library, 211 West First Street in Mancos.

The event is titled “The CCC Boys of Colorado: A Musical Tribute to the Civilian Conservation Corps.” It is free and open to the public, and refreshments will be served.

Class aims to help new home buyers

The Regional Housing Alliance of La Plata County and the La Plata Homes Fund will teach a free home buyer education class from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Sept. 8 and from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Sept. 10 at Fort Lewis College.

Topics will include budgeting and credit, real estate, insurance, foreclosure protection, and navigating the lending process. A certificate of course completion creates eligibility for certain loan products.
