City to spray weeds in parks

The city of Durango has contracted with Scott’s Pro-Lawn for turf fertilization and noxious weed abatement.

Spraying will take place in these locations:

Fassbinder, Viles, Roosa, Triangle and Crestview parks on Tuesday.Rank Park, Chapman Hill and the Rio Vista area (only) of Memorial Park on Wednesday. Hillcrest View and Jenkins Ranch parks on Thursday.Durango Community Recreation Center and Animas City Park on Friday.The herbicide that will be used is called Vessel Broadleaf Herbicide and Q4 Turf Herbicide. The weed control is repeatedly tested and approved by the Environmental Protection Agency, and Scott’s Pro-Lawn is licensed by the Colorado Department of Agriculture.

Senior center offers computer classes

The Durango/La Plata Senior Center, 2424 Main Ave., will offer these computer classes from 9 a.m. to noon:

“Current Trends in Technology” will take place April 26. Participants will look at some trends in technology and see how they can enhance their daily lives and save money.“Getting the Most from Your iPad or iPhone” will take place April 28. Participants will review basic operations and explore tips and tricks to help people get the most from their iPad. Participants should understand basic operations, bring their device to class and know their Apple ID and password. The class is iPad and iPhone specific.The cost of each class is $15. Army captain to reschedule visit

Due to the winter storm warning in Denver, former Army Captain Luis Carlos Montalván is unable to travel to Durango and has postponed his presentations for Tuesday and Wednesday at the Holiday Inn, 21636 U.S. Highway 160.

Information on rescheduling will follow in the near future.
