Downtown walking tours offered in July

Durango Friends of the Arts members will lead historic walking tours each Wednesday in July.

As you stroll up Main Avenue and back down historic Third Avenue, with its many Victorian homes, you will learn about Durango’s wild and colorful history. Tours are intended for locals and tourists alike.

Tours leave promptly at 10 a.m. from the Durango Welcome Center, 802 Main Ave. The tour will finish at the Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad museum. Participants should arrive a bit early. Tour dates are July 6, July 13, July 20 and July 27. Tickets are $10, and all proceeds benefit Durango Friends of the Arts.

Wages and hours workshop offered

The Southwest Colorado Small Business Development Center is offering a workshop: Avoiding Wage & Hour Violations for Businesses.

The workshop runs from 9 to 11 a.m. Thursday in the Community Room at First National Bank of Durango, 259 West Ninth St. The fee $25 per person.

Darren Matthews, director of Human Resources for Fort Lewis College, will instruct. He will discuss topics such as proper classification of employees, accurate time records and wage-and-hour compliance.
