How to raise chickens subject of next talk

“Backyard Chickens” is the next in a free series of talks at the Animas Valley Grange Hall, 7271 County Road 203. It takes place at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday.

Julie James Ott will present the basics of how to get started raising a small flock of chickens in your backyard, including buying chicks, brooding those chicks, feed basics, equipment, hen houses and predator safe yards.

Chickens and chicken chores have been a part of Ott’s entire life, beginning when her mom raised hens to supply their large family with fresh eggs. Ott began raising chickens on a larger scale for egg production when she and her husband moved back to her family’s range, the James Ranch, in the Animas Valley 25 years ago.

Refreshments will be served. For more information, visit https://www.facebook.com/animasvalleygrange/ or 385-5298.
