Area group to discuss search, rescue efforts
The Four Corners Back Country Horsemen will meet at 7 p.m. Jan. 9 at the La Plata County Fairgrounds, 2500 Main Ave.
Guests are encouraged to attend. The presentation topic will be “search and rescue.”

Chimney Rock group to host lecuture series
Chimney Rock Interpretive Association will sponsor a lecture series from January to April.
The lectures are free and open to the public. The lectures will take place from 7 to 8 p.m. after the association’s monthly potluck the second Thursday of every month at the Pagosa Springs Community Center.
The first speaker, Kevin Khung, will present Jan. 9. Khung is the district ranger for San Juan National Forest, Pagosa Ranger District. He will talk about the West Fork Fire Complex that occurred last summer. The public is invited to join the potluck preceding the lecture at 6 p.m. Participants are asked to bring a dish to share.

Myanmar presentation to take place Jan. 10
“Myanmar: The Changes and Challenges” a slideshow presentation by Tom Cheatham will take place at 7 p.m. Jan. 10 at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Durango, 419 San Juan Drive.
Durango photojournalist Cheatham has visited Myanmar nine times, both during its years under a military dictatorship and in its brief time as an emerging democracy. His presentation will provide a glimpse of life in this once-obscure Southeast Asian nation, a pictorial explanation of its Buddhist culture, and a primer for visitors. A reception will follow with refreshments and a photo exhibit in the Bowman Fellowship Hall.

Bird club to host local walk Wednesday
A bird walk will be hosted by Durango Bird Club at 9 a.m. Wednesday at For the Birds, 1560 East Second Ave.
The walks last about one hour and 15 minutes. Bring binoculars. The walks are free, but donations to the hosting group are welcome.
