The Durango Public Library staff can create a list of suggested titles for any age group, tailored specifically to their likes and dislikes.
Participants will answer a short survey, and the library will send a customized list by email within seven to 10 days.

A property tax exemption may be available for the tax year 2016, affecting taxes payable in 2017 for qualifying seniors and disabled veterans, and surviving spouses of those who previously qualified.
For people who qualify, 50 percent of the first $200,000 of the actual value of their primary residence may be exempt. The state pays the tax on the portion that is exempt from property tax if monies are available.
Once approved, the exemption remains in effect for future years, and the applicant should not reapply. To verify if a person is already signed up or to receive an application or brochure, call the La Plata County Assessor’s Office at 382-6228. The application deadline for seniors is July 15.

The Fort Lewis College Native American Center Speaker Series welcomes Olympic gold medal winner Billy Mills to campus on Tuesday.
In addition to meeting with FLC students, Mills will offer a public presentation at 6 p.m. in the Student Union Ballroom. The event is free, and open to everyone, though tickets are required. Ticket information can be found at www.durangoconcerts.com.
Mills won a gold medal in the 10K during the 1964 Tokyo Olympic Games. Since then, the Marine Corps veteran co-founded the Running Strong for American Indian Youth organization, which serves to help American Indian young people find opportunities to help them get ahead in life.

U.S. Rep. Scott Tipton will host a reception for the 2016 Congressional Art Competition finalists as well as announce this year’s winners from 3 to 4:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Durango Arts Center, 802 East Second Ave.
The students’ work will be on display at the Durango Arts Center from Friday to April 16. The first-place winner’s artwork will then be sent to Washington, D.C., to be exhibited for one year in the U.S. Capitol along with other award-winning art works from across the nation.
Pine River Library, 395 Bayfield Center Drive in Bayfield, will continue its Mesa de Charla community potluck and discussion series with a celebration of the planet hosted by the La Plata Family Centers Coalition from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday.
The event will include a film showing, community discussion, and potluck, as well as a craft for kids. All ages are welcome. Participants are invited to bring a dish to share.

Suzanne Arms will lead two circle gatherings for people challenged by mental health issues – their own or a loved one’s – starting Wednesday in Bayfield and Thursday in Durango.
People can visit the Bayfield Family Center, 511 Mustang St. in Bayfield, from 7 to 8 p.m. the first Wednesday of each month, or from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. the first Thursday of each month at the Unitarian Universalist Church in Durango, 419 San Juan Drive. Participants will practice simple skills for “down-regulating” the nervous system, centering, deep listening, and emotional replenishment. Gain deeper insight and understanding. The groups are gender inclusive. Arms is founder and director of the nonprofit Birthing The Future.
