High Noon Rotary Club to meet Thursday

The High Noon Rotary Club will meet from 11:45 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday at the DoubleTree Hotel, 501 Camino del Rio.

Mac Curtis will give a Rotary Foundation update. The cost for lunch is $15.

Eat Zia, help fund Durango Youth Soccer

Zia Taqueria will host a benefit weekend for the Durango Youth Soccer Association on March 7-8 at both Zia North, 3101 Main Ave., and Zia South, 400 South Camino del Rio.

A percent of the restaurant’s weekend sales will go to benefit this nonprofit organization devoted to the development of the sport of soccer in and around the Durango area.

Applicants sought for finance committee

The La Plata County Board of County Commissioners is seeking applicants for its Long Term Finance Committee.

This committee assists the Board of County Commissioners with respect to long-term financial planning. Applicants must have the interest and experience to assist in preserving the county’s fiscal soundness and must be residents of La Plata County with some knowledge of its government and background. This position is advisory only and is not monetarily compensated.

Senior center to offer computer workshops

The Durango/La Plata Senior Center will offer these computer workshops from 9 a.m. to noon, conducted by Jon Cordalis, The Computer Tutor:

Apple Mac Basics will take place March 10. This class is designed for the beginner and intermediate Mac user. Topics will include understanding the Mac interface, navigation, using Mac applications and more. Participants should bring their own computer.

iPad/iPhone Basics will take place March 12. This workshop is designed for new iPad or iPhone owners who want to learn how to use the basic functions and applications of these devices effectively. Participants should bring their own device and know their Apple ID and password.

Classes are $15 each, and pre-registration and pre-payment is required. Space is limited. To register, call 382-6428.

Workforce Board talks interns

The Southwest Colorado Workforce Board will meet from 10 a.m. to noon March 11 at the La Plata County Fairgrounds, 2500 Main Ave.

Agenda items include discussion on the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act and what it means for Southwest Colorado.

A Workforce Development Network meeting will follow from noon to 1:30 p.m., where a panel of employers will share their experiences with and strategies for hosting interns and work-experience students in their business.
