Ignacio library to hold deconstruction lab

“Deconstruction Hack Lab” will take place at 1 p.m., Saturday at the Ignacio Community Library, 470 Goddard Ave.

Learn how electronics are put together by taking them apart. What useful items can be gleaned from old electronics? How can they be used again?

Bayfield Elementary getting a garden

The Pine River Garden Club is building a garden at Bayfield Elementary School that will be used by both the school and the community.

They have had many donations of materials from local businesses and tons of volunteer labor from club members.

The club will have a workday on Saturday, and likely Sunday also, with experts from Moab, Utah, on Earthbag construction which is how the beds will be built.

Humane Society to hold Adopt-a-thon

The La Plata County Humane Society will celebrate its 14th annual Adopt-a-thon from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. June 3 and June 4, at the Humane Society, 1111 South Camino del Rio.

Adult cats will be $10, and adult dogs will be $50. The Thrift Store will be holding sales and there will be a concession stand.

Plants for medical use class offered

Herbalist Marija Helt is teaching a class called “Local Medicinal Plants: Yarrow” 6 to 7 p.m. Tuesday in Durango.

Learn about which parts of the plant are used and for what, how to harvest and make medicine, folkloric and magical uses. Suggested donation of $10. Please RSVP.
