A San Juan Basin Archaeological Society meeting will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday in the Lyceum at the Center of Southwest Studies at Fort Lewis College.
After the brief business meeting, Laurie Webster will present “Clothes Make the Person: Clothing Diversity in the Prehispanic Southwest.”
The talk will explore the regional diversity of clothing styles among prehispanic societies on the Colorado Plateau and south of the Mogollon Rim.
Webster is an anthropologist and textile consultant from Mancos. Her publications include the books Beyond Cloth and Cordage: Archaeological Textile Research in the Americas, and Collecting the Weaver’s Art.
The event is free and open to the public, and there will be a 6 p.m. reception prior to the meeting in the foyer.
Durango-La Plata Senior Center will offer a four-session creative music class from 1 to 2 p.m. each Wednesday from Aug. 10 to Aug. 31 at 2424 Main Ave.
Seniors can explore their creative side and stimulate their brains while playing musical bingo and other games with class instructor Caprice.
There is no experience necessary. The course fee is $10. Attendees should register with Greta at 382-6428.
Registration for Stillwater Music’s fall music program is now open for children of all ages and experience levels.
Classes will include introductory percussion, beginning steel drum band, multiple combo bands for beginning, intermediate and advanced students, intermediate a cappella vocal ensemble and a new beginning a cappella vocal ensemble. The program allows students to play as a group immediately, and that increases engagement and enjoyment.
