Skyfest music event to be held Feb. 28

Skyfest 2015 will be held Feb. 28 in the Whalen Gym at Fort Lewis College.

The event will feature The Motet and The Voodoo Glow Skulls.

Doors will open at 4 p.m., and the music will start at 5 p.m.

The cost is $15 for the general public. Tickets are available at Southwest Sound or at the door.

The event is free for FLC students until the day of the show. Tickets will be $1 at the door for FLC students.

University Women to host luncheon

The American Association of University Women, Durango branch, will hold its annual Book and Author Luncheon for members and guests at 11 a.m. March 21 in the Vallecito Room at Fort Lewis College.

This is an FLC scholarship fundraiser.

The guest speaker will be AAUW member Shaila Van Sickle, professor emeritus at FLC and author of Seven Characters in Search of an Author.

Program at library to discuss India

Don Gordon, a retired professor from Fort Lewis College, will be the Great Decisions discussion facilitator from 11:45 a.m. to 1:45 p.m. March 3 at Durango Public Library, 1900 East Third Ave. The topic will be “India Changes Course.”

The Great Decisions program is an international affairs discussion group sponsored by the library and the League of Women Voters of La Plata County. The public is invited and is welcome to bring lunch.

Horse center to offer volunteer training

Medicine Horse Center announces its Spring Volunteer Training from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. March 3 at its Durango facility. (Directions will be provided with registration.)

Medicine Horse is recruiting volunteers to assist as side-walkers and leaders for therapeutic riding sessions. People must be able to walk for as long as an hour outdoors with staff members, other volunteers and clients. No horse experience is necessary.

Pine River Library offers memoir writing

The Pine River Library will host these classes as part of a series of memoir-writing series:

The “Legacy Show and Tell” class will take place at 3 p.m. March 4. Participants will learn the basics of crafting a meaningful story by basing it on a tangible object. Instructor Susan Terrill-Flint will guide the class through the experience of writing about an object. All participants are asked to bring an object to write about. Advance registration is required.

The three-part memoir-writing workshop will begin March 11. This three-part class will guide participants through the memoir-writing process. Also taught by Terrill-Flint, this course is designed for seniors who want to capture their family legacy and inspire them to get started. The class will be held at 3 p.m. March 11, 25 and April 8. Advance registration is required.
