Democrats hold candidate debate

La Plata County Democrats will moderate a debate between the two candidates running to be the Democratic Party district attorney nominee, Christian Champagne and Ben Lammons. The debate will be at 6: 30 p.m., Feb. 18, at the Durango Public Library, 1900 East Second Ave.

Ignacio Library announces events

Ignacio Community Library announces the following events:

Photo Editing Basics with free software from 1 to 3 p.m., Thursday. Participants will learn about a free and open-source alternative to the popular photo editing program Photoshop. The class will cover the basics of downloading, installing, and using some of the basic features of GIMP.

E-Reader & Tablet Q&A class will show how to download eBooks and Audiobooks from 1 to 2:30 p.m., Feb. 18 and from 5:30 to 7 p.m., Feb. 25. Participants should bring their eReader or tablet. Participants without an eReader or tablet can loan one of the library’s.

Birding festival now accepting registration

Registration is open for the 12th annual Ute Mountain-Mesa Verde Birding Festival, from May 11 through May 15.

The 25 tours will take festival participants to birding hot spots throughout the Four Corners. Adhering to tradition, the popular raptor and owl tours are first on the festival’s schedule for Wednesday afternoon and evening.

The festival’s full registration fee covers the Welcome Reception and Bird Art Show, all lectures, the Mix and Mingle social hours, and the banquet. Single-day registrations are accepted, too. Separate fees apply to each of the festival tours, which are led by expert birders. All tour registrations are filled on a first-come basis except for the Condor Tour and Bluebird Trail tours. For the Condor and Bluebird Trail tours, car pool, participants travel in vans provided by various community agencies and organizations.

Tour fees include snacks, water, and sack lunch, or a catered meal if listed. Walk-in registrations may be available as space allows. An early bird registration discount ends March 24. But registration continues through festival dates as space allows.
