Local citizens are not following the law

I am a resident of La Plata County, but often go into downtown Durango to walk and to shop local. I don’t understand why it is so difficult for many of our neighbors to obey the law. The sidewalks are clearly marked for cyclists and skateboarders to dismount. Yet I have almost been run over by sidewalk cyclists on multiple occasions.

Then there are those who are apparently so caught up in their own self-importance that they cannot hang up their cellphones and drive. They frequently disobey the ‘No right turn on red” signs at the corner of Main and College.

Today, I saw a Colorado woman on her phone run a red light on Main. There were people crossing the street legally who had to stop to let her pass. And are you so weak-minded that you cannot go into south City Market without dragging your “emotional support dog” through the store?

I clearly understand the necessity for service dogs that are properly trained and wearing “Service Dog” vests. However, I really don’t care to put my groceries in a cart that has had a dog sitting in it. It doesn’t seem sanitary!

I also really loved seeing the Saint Bernard (no service vest) in the store huffing at the meats in the meat section! Can’t you go into the grocery store without your emotional support dog? Understandably, shopping at south City Market gets crazy sometimes, but please, be considerate of the rest of us!
