Local control, clean air, a healthy planet

I am writing to remind people that La Plata Electric Association is run by its customers as a rural electric cooperative. We pay LPEA to manage our bills and powerlines, and it currently purchases our electricity from the coal-heavy and expensive Tri-State.

Why would consumers go for a more expensive, non-locally controlled option when wind and solar power are now either on par with, or cheaper than, coal?

Furthermore, coal’s expenses soar even more when “externalities” (dumbest term ever) are included – see, for example, asthma rates and the grotesquerie of ignoring coal’s role in climate change.

I want local control. I want clean air. And I want a healthy planet for my grandchildren.

Do you?
