If there’s one thing we Durangoans dig, it’s a good trivia night. And with the uninvited appearance of COVID-19 forcing us inside and away from each other, in-person trivia nights have been given the ax for now.
But rejoice, shut-ins, for there is trivia to be had! Local First will host Virtual Trivia Night from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday – and the best part? No need to dress to impress because you ain’t going anywhere except in front of your computer or phone.
Kiki Hooton, managing director of Local First, said that along with joining fellow residents online, people are also encouraged to order meals from the local eateries that are offering take-out menus.
When you’ve had your meal and are ready to battle it out online, Virtual Trivia Night will start out on a Zoom link and questions will run through the game-based platform Kahoot! which is where players will submit their answers. A local comedian may even show up in the middle of the game to provide a little comic relief. Hooton said.
“You can invite your roommates, your household, you and your significant other,” she said. “Play with your kids at home and have a chance to see the other teams.”
And for Hooton, these events – even if only virtual for now – are a good way to give people a lift and local business a much-needed boost.
“I think it’s important because right now, we’re struggling to stay inside, and not feeling connected. This is a way to still be connected to support local businesses because people are also wanting to do that while maintaining the fact that we’re seeing more and more restrictions every day and we want to follow those guidelines,” she said. “Hopefully, this will help people follow guidelines and feel good about themselves and feel good about supporting the community, too.”
