Ale made from hops grown at the Old Fort Lewis College agriculture research station in Hesperus is available for the taste test Friday.

The ales, $12 for a sample of each of four brews, will be at Carver Brewing Co., 1022 Main Ave., starting at 5 p.m.

The hops are among a variety being tested at Hesperus as part of a three-year research project into how well hops do in Southwest Colorado.

Breweries in Pagosa Springs and Mancos also received free hops to test their hand with the local hops.

The Osadha Herbal Wellness Center in Durango received a hybrid hop to produce an alternative-medicine tincture.
